Ubuntu - few questions

Sometimes my laptop with ubuntu freezes randomly. The screen sorta locks and it doesn't respond. I'm thinking I hit some key combo that locks the screen. When I do that though the battery icon and some "s" in a lock icon blink on my laptop. So it looks like the scroll lock icon maybe or something like that.



Also, there's a way that I hit the touchspad that makes my computer go back to desktop and I have to go to the bottom right and hit a icon to get my windows back. How can I control that?

Someone may be able to help you out here but most of the *nix guys are in the subforum. This, albeit not titled as so, is really the Windows forum.
