I'm going to start off by declaring myself a complete and total linux noob.
With that being said, i'm having problems getting my display to work with a fresh install of ubuntu (64bit - 5.10). I've got a 6800gs with an old Sony CRT that i'm using. After installation was complete, and i had to reboot, i got a screen that was just a bunch of small colored squares, which from googling i learned is display settings problems. I've tried using the nv, vesa(recommended as a possible solution), and vga settings. But i get error messages saying that there is are problems with the display settings. Since this is my first experience with ubuntu, i'm not sure what else i should be trying to fix this. Any suggestions?
