I'm having issues with Ubuntu installing as multiboot on my desktop. I previously used Ubuntu solely for about 3 years as I went through a "Windows is too unstable" phase.

I have XP, Vista, and Win7RC installed currently and was going to install Ubuntu 9.04 but whenever it finishes the Ubuntu install and reboots I get a grub error that I have as yet been unable to figure out.

What it does is reinstalls Grub, and Grub will pick up the other OS's that you have on the computer. I have used this several times after I deleted linux and went back to windows only, and used grub to boot into windows.

What stage error are you getting? Unless your MBR or grub executables are corrupted (unlikely), this is likely caused by a mismatch between the drive mapping in Grub and in the BIOS (the auto installation messes up sometimes). Check the menu.lst file by booting from a live cd and mounting the partition where the grub stage 2 files are stored (typically the / of the last Linux partition you installed unless you customized Grub during the install) for the order in which the physical drives are mapped and set the same boot order for the drives in the BIOS.
