Uber Eats eating restaurant profits.

Someone needs to stop Uber from forcing these restaurants to use their service at gunpoint

Wait..

The restaurant industry is insanely competitive. If all of your competitors are using a delivery service and you are not, then even with the delivery service fucking over your competitors they will survive while your business won't.

Hire a delivery driver and offer free delivery. Done, you just killed all your competitors on Uber eats, or charge an exorbitant "delivery fee"

ooooohhh I fuckin hate ""delivery fees"

That is an option, but then you have to advertise that you have delivery, make sure you have enough drivers to meet demand, make sure drivers know where they're going, and so on. You act like its free and easy to do.

Edit: Oh and if you actually want to compete with Uber Eats or other delivery services you will want some kind of online ordering system in place since people using those services want the convenience of ordering without needing to call anyone.

I can't understand how Uber is viable. It's so stupid.

It's not. Last Q they lost 1 billion on 3.1 billion revenue. Imagine running a business where for every 2 dollars you took in you spent 3. This isn't new, they've never made a profit. They have been surviving on speculation dollars. Yeah uber is cheaper than a cab... but that's because every ride is subsidized by investors. This won't happen forever.

If you hate delivery fees so much why don't you just do delivery for free then for your favorite food establishment?

Drivers cost money. The business has to recoup that money somehow. Charging the people that use that service seems like a fair way. Don't like delivery fees? Then go drive and pickup your own damn food.

Chef's cost money? Should I have an additional arbitrary fee if I want my food cooked?

That's included in the price of the food itself. Unless you want them to serve you uncooked food.

100% of customers at a restaurant have their food cooked by staff.

<100% have food delivered.

You should pay for the services you use, that's it.

Buuut.. thats not how it evolved though. It all started with high gas prices.. tacking on extra fees, cause gas. Gas has dropped and remained fairly lower for a long time now... The 'fees' stayed, and grew.
I do agree with the sentiment that delivery fees are bull.. but I suppose of course it has to be priced in somewhere.

Driver pay goes up, insurance costs go up. Gas dropping doesn't make everything else go down as well or stops raising. They can either bake (pun slightly intended) the delivery fee into the cost of all food, charging every customer for the delivery regardless of whether they're getting food delivered or not, or they can tack on a small delivery fee. Nothing is free and the more convenient something is the more it usually costs (for both the customer and the company).

Just curious, how would you prefer to pay for the extra cost of delivery? You seem to want everyone to pay the same price whether its delivery or not? Which would mean the restaurant loses non delivery ccustomers and/or loses money on every delivery.

Also, how much do you think delivery drivers get paid? How much SHOULD they be paid? And no, tipping is not a substitute for delivery charges. Deliveries are actually tipped LESS, on average, than dine-in orders. Source: work in the industry

Well.. they would be more encouraged to pass as close to the cost as possible if built in the food. With 'fees' they probably don't give a shit about the real cost of the service and just tack on whatever. I understand min order for delivery.. but so often is minimum order, within limited area, plus 3.50 to 5 in fees.
Yeah, I would much rather pay with the food price.

As someone who doesn't mind picking up my food from 1 block away to avoid a $5 fee, I say nah - you can pay for your own food deliveries, I'm not interested in subsidizing laziness. You get a pass on the lazy comment if you lost your legs from war or whatever, but for the general populace services that allow you to be lazy should cost the user of that service extra money.

The food industry seems to agree with me by the way, otherwise they'd be implementing that idea. They're not just doing included delivery though, because the idea is terrible.
