*Uber* - dump my 2407

Wonder how resistant those things are to oil residue left behind by all that touching.

That's eerily similar to a project I worked on for the CDC in mid-2006. Ours is called "Touch Table" and it uses the exact hand movements you see in the video. TT is being developed for some military applications such as battlefield intel, troop deployments, etc., but it holds a lot of promise as a tool to monitor disease outbreaks, disaster response, and so much more. The table is fed real-time satellite imagery which is projected onto a huge table-based LCD. I only saw the early prototypes, so I have no idea how much progress has been made since I left. It's so cool to see the potential demonstrated by the video.

nice concept, but it'll never take off.
its hard to fathom people actually doing that on their PC.
we'd all look like a bunch of freaking idiots, not to mention what it would cost and the hardware required to run something like that.

*reverts back to first sentence*

This is just similar to the Smartboard that most meeting rooms are using now. Except the interface is tweaked and enhanced. But I don't see it flying for another 20 years.

i think it's already being used in the military. btw that's nothing more than Google earth in the beginning

Did anyone notice that the guys working on the display didn't actually accomplish anything?

Well what do you want them to do? They were showing what you can do with it, simple demonstration.

yea I did, made me wonder (skeptic in me) if they were simply waving their arms and hands in a predetermined fashion.

why I thought that? one, didn't get anything done. two, the computer (s) they had powering this kind of solution must have been quite powerful, and yet he is doing this project on his own? and wouldn't you want to know what was the power source?

meh, if it is real, I hope they get it to market so we can play with it. would make SupCom even better (yes, I am kidding).

Really cool tech no doubt, but not something i would use. As mentioned the concept is cool, and it would certainly have its place in the market, but not for home users. No way i want to stand for ~10 hours a day waving my arms when i can lay on my couch with a laptop :p

I'm sure there's a "lazy mode" where you can hook up the keyboard/mouse if you want. :p

I have seen this somewhere before. Nice nevertheless.
