My friend wants to build two new gaming boxes. He needs entirely new boxes, but no Monitor, KB or Mouse. Must be Intel/nVidia. I'm leaning towards a 915P motherboard and a 6600GT. He would like "mini" computers (whatever that means  ) Would it be cheaper to:

Get a Barebones SFF and build that out
or
Get a cheap mATX motherboard and case

he might be referring to Shuttle XPCs...they're gonna tend to be more expensive than a regular mobo and case, for the most part. ~$300+

Wooo, first post in a while but anyways - There's a problem, the motherboard is ATX and the case is mATX which means that it will not fit.

One advice: You really don't need that Neopower 480W. You can make do with half the price by going with Fortron's 350W PSU.

I'd just get the shuttle. It's probably less of a hassle in the long run and is probably more what he's looking for. You can get an older shuttle and a CeleronD or something and throw in a 6600GT AGP for the cheap. Probably OC a ways too.

The Celeron D is a lot better than the old Celerons. I wouldn't do it myself, but the "uber-cheap" might want to give it a try.

cut corners where you can. i think this can power your system fine ($20.00 RFSP Group (Fortron Source) ATX300GU ATX 300W PSU

try to get a cheaper optical drive.

that's really expensive for an "uber-cheap" box...i know you didn't want to hear this, but if he's willing to spend that much, why not get a cheap s949 (or whatever the new socket is) A64 box?
