I was wondering what the feedback was on the UAT. I am looking to go into Game Design for modelling, animation, level design ; you know that sort of aspect to gaming.

I know this is broad but any experience anyone might have with the school I would love hearing.

Also a side question that I have, am I up to par with what I should know by now to think about attending UAT. As of now I am a senior in high school and can handle the Hammer map editor withe ease(Half Life Engine). Aside from that I don't have much experience, aside from limited photoshop abilities and very basic use of Blender. I am planning on going to a community college to get the first two years out of the way then transfer over.

UAT?

I was looking into Digipen Institute of Technology's Real Time Interactive Simulation Bachelor's program for a while... but alas, I'm off to Wentworth in Boston to pursue my CompSci Bachelor's next tuesday....

smart move, you don't want to be pigeonholed with such a specific degree.

I figured it this way, I can obtain a Bachelor's of Computer Science, but then concentrate in Game Development as time allows during the next 4 years. It'd be alot safer that way, and it allows for more job opportunity just in case...

digitech is now offering a comp. engineering degree i believe and some masters programs

In the game industry, there is still no substitute for a strong portfolio and experience. An easy way to get that experience is college, where one should have the opportunity to work on at least one homebrew game. However, I feel that getting a more flexible degree, such as liberal arts, business, or even computer science, and working on strong, popular mods, would be a far better option.

I'm currently enrolled in Game and Art design for a Bachelor's of science degree
At the art institude of pittsburgh

The courses I will be taking cover all that and more

well, i see some one beat me to the question, but recently i have been thinking about also taking game design, and i keep seing this add for collins college on techtv, im sure most of you have seen it, but what are the chances that any of you here on the [H] have actually heard anything about the college or actually attended to it for game design?

seing how its in tempe, AZ. i have had second thoughts about mooving there, mainly because i hear ots hotter than it is here in texas and dry, i hate hot weather.

In regards to a high class "Game" school, Digipen Institute of Technology, IMO is the best.
You can get into those "learn game design and have fun!" colleges with a 2.0 through HS.

Here's a (probably rather stupid) question: Is there any way of obtaining what books each course needs for the Game Development program? I'm very curious as to what books they recommend / need for the class. I'm beginning to build a small library on this stuff, and the way I see it is, the more references I have for my future career, the better...

Digipen also requires you to have good math and science as well. Also if you are willing to stand a ridiculous course load per semester (read: have no life practically), your in like flynn.

Well see I do have a very slight advantage because I have a friend who is in the industry already, sort of. Actually its a friend who is graduating who jokingly mentioned he could recommend me. I'm still very uncertain about where to go but I know I want to try, if possible, to go into Game Design.
