I haven't been running folding for a lil' bit now, but I tried starting up the client again and kept getting:

+Attempting to get work packet
-Will indicate memory of 4093 mb
-Connecting to assignment server
Connecting to http://assign.stanford.edu:8080/

so I downloaded the client again and installed and I get the same thing......

There is a minor shortage of WUs right now for the SMP2 client. Leave it be and it will pick one up as soon as they become available. With the popularity of the SMP2 client, there has been on and off shortages of available WUs. It is something everyone unfortunately has to deal with.

 
As suggested, you can just leave it running and it will continue to try until it is assigned a WU. The other thing you can do if you are impatient like me is let it retry 6 times, ctrl-C to shut it down, and then fire it back up again as you should be able to get a WU fairly quickly by doing that. That is because the delays between retries get longer and longer after #6 failed attempt.

Found this on one of my rigs today ..... 137 failed attempts to get a new WU going back to April 14th :rolleyes:

-smp -deino flags (old P4 3.0)

Code: 
[17:24:29] + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[17:24:29] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[17:24:29] - Attempt #137  to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.
I cleaned out the work directory, deleted the cores, queue etc. Restarted client a bunch of times. No joy.

I have an identical rig right next to it that had no problem getting a new WU while I was working on this one. Go figure.

Wern't they supposed to be phasing out that particular client you are using?
 
Yeh I think that one will only wun a1/a2 cores, could be wrong though.

Hmm. Could be the beginning of the end for my low-end CPU SMP clients. They don't yield much in the way of points but they do complete what they are given well before the deadline (usually). Have four of these older rigs running this SMP client along with the GPU client (4x8800GTS), maybe I'll just switch the CPUs over the BOINC and call it a day.

What about running the classic uniprocessor client for single core processors? You won't be generating many points, but you'll still be getting the job done :)

True, but you also get a much longer deadline for the WU's that are given out over that classic client. For the SMP client, I believe the bonus deadline is usually about 4 days or so from what FahMon is telling me. I remember when I first started on the uniprocessor client that some of the deadlines were literally 3 weeks away.
