U3011 OK for gaming?

I haven't been able to find out too much information on this. I'm interested in getting the U3011 because I'm personally tired of 16:9 and TN on every "gaming" monitor, but I'm wondering if it will perform well enough for games? I'm talking more about response time and input lag, less about framerates...

I do a lot of coding and Photoshop work, and would like something nicer than my Alienware monitor for this stuff.

Can anyone who actually has experience with this monitor tell me how it is for gaming?

There is a lot of information and feedback from U3011 owners in these forums if you look at the owners thread and a few others. There are also tons of reviews out there and they all talk directly to the input lag and response times for gaming and desktop use and their metrics against other panels.

The upshot of feedback that I have got asking similar questions is that some notice the input lag, others don't; and the majority seem to say the panel is fine for gaming.

If you do a lot of coding work, I would absolutely NOT buy the U3011. The U3011 has an extremely aggressive AG coating which causes a "sparkle" effect and makes text look very grainy. I RMAed my U3011 for this exact reason --- text actually looked clearer on my $250 TN monitor. For coding and gaming you would be better off to just buy the upcoming DELL U2713. The U3011 was great performance wise (no issues with response time or input lag) but the strong coating makes colors look very "muddy" compared to the ACD27" or upcoming U2713.

I had a U3011 at my office awhile back, but I never used it for gaming. I felt like the AG coating was fine (I use light text on dark background color schemes for coding), so I'm not too worried about that. I got rid of my U2711 because it used the same coating, but a much lower dot pitch made things way too grainy.

The AG coating is fine until you have a grainy IPS next to a semi-glossy PLS or glossy IPS :)

Wait for the 3012/3013 which should be coming out this fall.

Zinn, coming from an AW2310 and 2412 (both have very low input lag), I think you will find the 3011's poor black levels and input lag to be quite noticeable and will likely have to change your sensitivity in most games to adapt.

It is possible that the newer model will have low input lag since Eizo's SX2762 (1440p IPS with a scaler) has low( 8ms) input lag (PRAD) while most others have a little over 1 frame.

I had a U2311h for awhile (I'll assume the AG is similar) and I didn't notice the coating until coming over to my new glossy panel. I will say that it is certainly clearer and I enjoy working on the new panel more. This is all going to be opinion on the forums though.

It is my understanding that the U3011 has a scaler that is going to introduce some input lag, the HP ZR30 type monitors do not due to their limited inputs - may be an overall better monitor as far as response time and input lag.
