Hopefully not with a garbage turn-based combat system.
Hopefully not with a stupid real-time combat system.
I read this as "Tranny" and got excited....

Gorgeous game.
But I just can't do swords and magic for awhile. I'm just......I can't.

Edit: Holy FOCK this looks like what Diablo 3 should have been. I am now excited again.
What about a hybrid system like Baldur's Gate/Dragonage Origins?
I never understood the hatred many people have for turn based combat. It allows you time to think, instead of being a click fest. If you want real time, go play a shooter, that's the best fit for real time combat. Some of us like to think about the best strategy to use, and would like the time to decide. Also, it's nice to be able to get up and get a fresh beer or take a piss without having the game punish you for not being at the helm. Turn based, i can get up from the computer and leave it sit as long as i need to, until i can return to the game.
I understand that some real time games allow you to pause, but is that really real time then? Even real time with pause isn't as good as turn based, IMHO, at least for certain genres.
Personally, Diablo 1 and 2 would not have been anywhere near as fun with turn-based or pause-based combat.
I prefer my strategy games turn-based, as for RPG I could go either way. And I'm probably not lining up for a turn-based shooter anytime soon if there even is such a thing.
Doesn't Obsidian prefer the pause-based combat if we're going by track record here?
Why not RTWP? I think Real time with pause is the best for a game going for a classic pc rpg experience.
Still super-bummed that they changed Torment from RTWP to turn-based .
I mean turn based can work, The new X-com games for example, are GREAT turn-based games, but most turn-based modern rpgs end up feeling really really under-whelming when it comes to tactics an dmaking use of proper cover mechanics and things.

Fallout 1 was the game that got me into RPG, which was turn based.
However I had always been more concerned with plot than actual combat in RPG's, which is probably the main point of me playing RPG's. The actual form of combat is probably way down on the list, which probably explains why I have a tolerance towards turn based games (EG Final Fantasy, even the generally disliked 13).
In fact, the only combat I actually didn't like is the forced pauses in RTWP. I switched it off in KOTOR 1 & 2 as soon as I learned about it, I find it completely breaks the flow of the game.

Looks great! I so shouldn't buy this yet given the number of RPG's still in my backlog
Same. Haven't even started Pillars of Eternity yet. And Civ VI comes out this week to take my time away.
There's too many games!
lol, i have the same addiction as you. It's sickening.I've barely even touched Divinity or PoE, and I've already purchased this. And I've got another 100 hours on another RPG before I have the time to pick up another one.
I REALLY have to stop pre-ordering games...
