I've been using computers for years, but I never learned how to type. I poke with 2-4 fingers, but I do it fast (60+WPM last time I checked). I have to look at the keyboard, but since I've been doing it so long I know where most of the keys are anyway. I can find the "A" key with my pointer finger, but using my pinky is wierd.

I've tried learning how to type, but it's so much slower when doing it the right way because I don't know how, so I always revert back to poking.

Anyone know any techniques or software that will change me from the horrors of having to look at the keyboard? I'd lik to do it the right way, but can't do it on my own.

My name is John, and I'm a touch-typaholic.

I can write an essay without having to look at my keyboard, just by looking at my monitor - I usually find my position by placing all 8 fingers on the main middle keys:

a, s, d, f are all covered by my left hand and h, j, k, l are all covered by my right hand. I then move my fingers accordingly using as little hand movement as possible.

I know its not much but I hope this helps

look for a program called mavis beacon teaches typing. I used this as a kid and found it quite helpful
