Hi. Does anybody have a secret for tying exposed wires together so they look fairly smooth (after electrical tape of course)?

I want this:

to make a connection, be taped over, and run in a straight line like a normal, non-broken cable would

Aint gonna happen.

The electrical tape's thickness, multiplied by the number of wraps around each wire, multiplied by the number of wires, will equal your added thickness.

Can't you replace the entire wire?

Twist, solder(sp*), and heatshrink, is the best. For black tape to be in spec, i think its twice the thickness of the wire.

Inline connector + heatshrink over the whole thing = clean and a good connection.

solder and heatshrink is win for clean looking wire repairs
