Well, over the last few months I had some issues with my TYAN N6650W motherboard.
It finally gave out on me yesterday. It was just sitting there running world community grid. It was on ita 9th day up and running 100% on all 8 cores. Peak temperature as of an hour before the crash was 113F. I was on my laptop when it happened. It just shut off, as if the power supply died. Well not the case, I run Delta 1U redundant supplies, and both check out to be fine. I tried powering the board with the basics, and nothing happened. It simply wouldnt turn on.
Earlier symptoms. It wouldnt run with dual channel memory installed. I have 16 matching Kingston KVR PC5300 sticks. I can only populate the odd or the even number banks for it to work. It worked perfectly in single channel memory mode. When I would install memory so it woudl run in dual channel mode it would freeze seconds after the BIOS loaded.
Another symptom, it would randomly refuse to boot unless I shut both power supplies off and powered them back up.
The board seemed to be pretty flaky to me. For how much it costs from TYAN, that shouldnt be.
So tomorrow, I need to call TYAN. I hope there customer service is good. I have never RMA'ed anything through them before.
