I want to build a gaming desktop which will stay in my bedroom.

But I also want to play certain games on the couch in the living room.

Is there a way to have two outputs for two different users? (run an HDMI or DVI cable between the rooms). ie. User 1 = "Me", User 2 = "Media Center Living Room"

For instance, I can be browsing the web in my bedroom while a friend is watching a movie or playing a game in the living room.

term: Concurrent users?

the problem will be a mouse and keyboard. As far as I know, there is no way to have 2 mouses control 2 cursors, or whatever. Do it at different times should be no problem though.

jup, the dual monitors you can do, your buddy browsing porn while you are trying to play an online game, that would be a problem.

Seriously though, how do I protect my privacy?

This would be in a 2 bedroom college students house.

If I'm watching porn in my bedroom or posting on nerdy forums, I don't want my housemate or their friends to be able to turn on the living room monitor and watch...

Does that mean I would have to plug and unplug the monitor from my bedroom when I'm not using it?

Bahhh.... I wanted 1080P for those lazy couch games but I may just buy a PS3 for the couch.... ~blurry 720P isn't that bad, right?

Output to the family room doesn't seem easy enough.

I'd get a cheap $150 nettop and use that for the other display. Limit yourself to older games and emulators on it. Not sure what you are doing will really work that great.
