1. Can you use DSR to scale down from 8K to 4K?

2. In the presentation they talked about using two cards in VR applications, one for the left eye and one for right eye. For the gamer perspective, do they extend that to left, centre, and right with three cards? Older gamers may remember that you could (allegedly, I wasn't rich enough to have three PCs) hook up three PCs for this in Doom.

I'm sure everyone here who owns one will be able to answer your questions right away.

Although, regarding your second question - how would this work, exactly? Do you have three eyes? Or would you maybe be wearing three separate helmets? Or a super special VR headset that has three screens built in? I'm not clear on what advantage this would give you for a VR situation since humans typically have, at most, two eyes.

Unless... NVIDIA smell-o-vision, powered by phsyx?

DSR would have to be used on a 4k monitor I beleive to downsample 8k. I don't think dSR is available on 4k monitors, May not be possible through dSR. Can always use gedosato

For non-VR each frame is a single perspective of some scene, VR each frame is two different perspectives of some scene.

For non-VR with multiple displays a single large image is being rendered, and then it gets split up, or rather each head ends up scanning out a different section of the large image. For VR with left/right eyes, there are two different images being rendered, they can end up being scanned out by different heads or composites together in some funky way and scanned out by a single head.

For non-VR with multiple GPUs it is often best to alternate between which GPU renders the next frame. GPU #2 can start frame #5 before GPU #1 finishes frame #4. For VR with multiple GPUs it is easier to just let each GPU render one of the perspectives needed.

I think he just means 3 monitors, so no, it would be one big frame buffer, and 1/2/3/4 cards would help rendering the whole image (in sequence / afr), not divided by screen.

I think DSR works up to 4x your screen's native resolution (EG 1080p has 4k as max, 1440p has 5k, so on).

DSR can only scale down from 4k, so you cannot have 8k DSR on a 4k monitor. If you have a 4k monitor you won't have any DSR options at all. I believe NVIDIA has said that they're looking at adding support for higher resolutions. The DSR tagline "4K-Quality Graphics On Any HD Monitor" is quite literal.

"My resolution before was 3440x1440 with DSR 6440x2440 much better for spotting targets"

You can go over 4k ^

You guys scared the shit out of me, just bought a 3440x1440 that's in the mail and I can't do without DSR. Once you try it... can't go back...

I can do a max of 5120x2880 (5k) res on my 1440p monitor with DSR.

Like Dayaks...once you go DSR you never go back.

I wish I could try it, I'm running 980s in Sli and a Rog Swift and I can't get the option to appear. I havnt even seen it appear if I choose to run one card. One day DSR I will find you, and utilize the Shit out of you...

You have to set the monitor to 60hz. DSR will not work with 120/144hz.

Also It will not work with G-sync.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I could be wrong about the Gsync thing now, but I know DSR will not show up with any refresh rate higher then 60hz. I tested it with my monitor. Once I made a custom 1440p rez @ 61hz DSR options were not available.

And not with 980M / 970M either we discovered! They said "supported soon" 5 months ago. Anyway back to Titan X.

In a single card config, DSR and Gsync work just fine, even up to 144Hz. DSR + Gsync + SLI on the other hand, doesn't.

I keep getting excited with every new driver set install when DSR shows up as an option, then I get all sad when I realize it's because SLI is disabled.

Nvidia has had a list of compatible configs on their main driver forum since 344.65, and they haven't updated it since, which is starting to bug the crap outta me and a lot of other users.

I think DSR works up to 4x your screen's native resolution (EG 1080p has 4k as max, 1440p has 5k, so on).

And if you use a Proper monitor (CRT), it works up to 4x any resolution.

I've used DSR up to 344Hz. DSR works at any refresh rate.

Thats because DSR does not work with custom resolutions.

DSR works fine for me with my 4k monitor, i can make a Dynamic super resolution at max of 7680x4320, not that my puny 970gtx would be able to use them, but i have actually used 4703x2645 (x1,50) for some reason.. by nvida math that gives an uneven number, in both DMC and dishonered and they look preeety good imho.

also.. not quite right..

OP, the good news for you is that most games in which you would have sufficient power to spare to run at 8K resolution are DirectX 9 games, so you don't need to use DSR to downsample from 8K.

Use Nvidia Inspector and stack some Sparse Grid Super Sample Anti-aliasing on top of running them at 4K resolution and it will be like downsampling from 8K:
http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=490867

SGSSAA is the only AA method that is actually superior to downsampling.

The Lego games are a good candidate for this as they are not resource extensive. You can safely stack 8x SGSSAA on top of running them at 4K and they should hold 60 FPS.

I'm going to be finding out soon enough. My first games will be BL2 and Tomb Raider.

Here's a helpful chart to determine if DSR works.

In short, it doesn't work with 4k monitors if you're running SLI.

Anything below 4k though, it will work.

^ elelunicy, where did you find that chart?

I'm also curious as to how many of those "In Development**" lines really mean "Maybe never"

Yeah #9 was half a year ago. There's no good reason that they couldn't have enabled DSR on mobile Kepler by now, especially for gaming laptops that entirely disable the integrated gpu.
