Two RAID 1 arrays or single RAID 10 array for ESXi datastore?

I am wondering which would be the most beneficial. I have 4 2TB hitachi ultrastar HDDs.

Two RAID 1 arrays, resulting in two datastores.

One RAID 10 array, resulting in a single datastore.

I'm thinking that for a significant amount of VMs, having two datastores would be more beneficial. Would the performance of RAID 10 make more sense?
 
I would agree with the above, with one caveat. If you are running a DRS cluster, the cluster wants to see at least two datastores for heartbeating. You could always add a small datastore from another drive if needed.

Otherwise, yes - more spindles spread out the loads and will get you better performance. Another option would be a raid 5 array, but on 2TB drives the rebuild time could potentially be too much that another failure might occur during the rebuild time. Raid 6 would give you dual failure protection, but probably not any better than raid 10 in a four-drive array. Raid 6 is probably best for at least 6-8 drives.
