Two Instances?

Whenever I start my computer, the programs in the startup folder get started twice. I've tried moving them back and forth from shared startup to just my startup and vice versa. If I ctrl-alt-del there are two instances often running, and some of the dumber programs have two tray icons. What causes this phenomena, and how can I prevent it?

I've never seen that happen, but you could use msconfig, or Google StartUpCPL 2.8 to find out why it's happened, and how to disable them.

Weird.

Do you have the shortcuts in both of these places?

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\[Your username]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If so delete them from one of the startup folders.

Like I said, I've kept the shortcuts in either one or the other, never both, and tried either directory. Same problem either way. Also, two instances show up in MSConfig. If I uncheck one and reboot, then run MSConfig again there is only one instance and it's unchecked, meaning the program didn't run at all.
