I was wondering if I had two hard drives with there own OS if that would be stupid??? I want one hard drive to just be for gaming and the other for regular surfing and downloading.
I thought if having one hard drive for gaming I wouldn't have crap running in the background and get maybe better performance.

Does this sound dumb or should I just buy a one big ass hard drive? My system is in my sig. :)

I think the gains you would get by dual booting would be offset by the inconvenience of rebooting just to do some surfing/email etc.

Sure you could do it, but what's going to stop you from gunking up your gaming side of things by being lazy and getting a system full of crud?

Get a 2nd rig, something like a P3 or AthlonXP system and a KVM switch.

One hard drive. Having just games installed on another drive isn't gonna make it faster just because you have no other programs on it.

I think he means to not install other apps that would tend to interfere with his gaming like, AV software, printer crud, etc etc.

Exactly!

that´s would be stoopid unless U have different operating systems, the best way is to have just one drive with the OS and TWEAK the services in order to get performance, u can set different services setups for different things i myself have one for Games, with no network services therefore no chance to connect to internet, another for Work and the Default windows.

You can make your own on mypc/properties/hardware/ and clic on hardware profiles, then click on copy and rename them and change them using the services tool, just run "services.msc". For a complete list check Black Viper´s website the best in the net IMHO (http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm). have fun

didn't have your setup per se, but I did have two drives with two OSes on them. was testing linux on its own drive and had windows on its own drive.

desktop hd use the 12v rail to startup. So I cut the rail and inserted a switch (simple toggle). depending on what I wanted to boot would determine the switch that needed to be on. absolutely no problems.

had the switches mounted on a blank 3.5 face plate on the case.

for what it is worth.

You could also set up hardware profiles and just use one OS. When you boot, it'd ask you for normal profile or your tweaked gaming profile.

Control panel --> system --> hardware tab ---> hardware profiles

Be prepared to be dissapointed with the extra performance you'll (not) get.
