two hard drives in a pc?

can any1 point me 2 the right direction or tell me here how i can use two hdd on a pc. one of them having windows xp installed and programs. while the otehr1 is simply for storing and backing up my mp3's , video files etc.... im thinking if getting a seagate 160gb for £53, i already have a 200gb hdd but i mess around wid my pc alot so a optional hdd 2 back my things up wud b nice :)
 
All you do is connect the 2nd hard drive properly (i.e. jumpers in proper places), format it in Windows through Disk Management, and you're set.
 
whrs disk management? is it my computer u mean? umm say if windows xp gets currupted i'e wont boot.... does that mean both hdd are fucked or only the one that was running windows?
 
Window disk managment is located =start>control panel>adminstrative tools>computer managment. On the left side of the computer managment page click on disk managment. Then you find your new drive and format and Windows will asign a drive letter to it.

If you use NTFS file system only a NTFS based computer will be able to read the new drive if you drop it into another machine. If you use Fat 32 it can be read by any Windows based computer.
 
I just hooked up a second harddrive to my PC yesterday.. as everyone else said.. just connect it.. make sure you got your slave and master settings right. then boot into windows.. and go to diskmanagement and format the bad boy.. and you're good to go.. and yes.. say windows trashes the hardrive it's in .. the storage harddrive will still be there once you recover..

Making assumptions as to what you mean, generally only the one that was running windows. If you had hard drive A that had Windows on it, and hard drive B with files on it, and Windows gets screwed up, you can format hard drive A, reinstally from scratch, and everything on hard drive B will be in tact.

Of course, if just the Windows install becomes corrupt, then just about all data files on both disks will be in tact (well, besides any corrupt files). Back in the days of 98, when I had two hard drives on one computer, I would install my o/s on both hard drives. That way if my main install of Windows went south, then I could just boot off the other, fix whatever problem(s) there are (or, in the worst case, retrieve files off of my main hard drive), and go about my life.
 
cool yea i use 2 do that also with two hdd's, i have purchased my new hdd a,d installed xp on it, my old one i will reformat.. the new hdd i have is not the cd drive, its a G: instead :( is there a way2 change that? my old hdd is the c: cuz it has a messed up windows xp at the moment but i am running that has a slave to copy my files into my new hdd, and than reformating it.. is there a way to change the drive letters? will it currupt my programs and windows xp if i change my g: to c:?
