Two Displays with Two Computers

I need to know the best way I can make this work. At work, I have two computers (a PC and a Laptop), as well as two displays (17" Dell and a 42" LG). The Laptop I am currently using will be replaced by a more powerful HP desktop. I still require the use of my laptop, because of a few programs on there I use daily, but cannot be installed on the desktop because of policy changes. I need to a way to control both computers from a single keyboard and mouse. I need the 17" Dell display for the laptop, but would need both displays for the PC. Make sense?

Any ideas or suggestions would greatly help!

Thanks,

it's a neat virtual KVM software from MS. I used to use it at home to control my laptop from my desktops KB and mouse. You just use it like a secondary monitor. Only downside is that you'll need it installed on both machines, which can be problematic if your IT dept doesn't allow it

Yeah, that won't work for me, but I like the idea though. Is that the same thing as like RDP or Team Viewer? I understand what a physical KVM switch does, but never saw a software version though.

no, its not a remote desktop. It's just allows you to control the mouse/KB of both machines with either set of hardware (either the laptops KB/mouse or the desktops KB/mouse). So the idea is that you'd hook your laptop up to monitor 1 and your desktop up to monitor 2 (or, for that matter, your desktop to monitor 1 and 2 and the laptop using it's own display), then it's a seamless experience like you're only using 1 computer with two (or 3) displays.

Pretty sure you can even copy/paste between the two. It's really slick

Assuming you have both PCs on the same network, you need a keyboard and mouse sharing utility. There are many out there. My current favorite is called Input Director. It is very low footprint and works very well.

I second the recommendation for Input Director. Mouse without Borders is good too, however I get more accurate mouse movement using Input Director. FYI - You may need to have a mouse plugged into the slave system for the cursor to show.

Check out Synergy. You can run one of the computers as the host server and the other desktop and the laptop as clients and it is seamless KM software.

I have been using Synergy for years now. While there might be something better out there, I haven't had the desire or necessity to look. Synergy works very well, especially over a wired network. The last time I had a keyboard or mouse hooked up to my secondary desktop was many months ago.

I think you are looking for a hardware dual monitor KVM shouldn't be hard to find just make sure it supports the display outputs you plant to use. HDMI on the TV and ? on the dell monitor?
