I'd love to see the "quote" feature strip images, or convert the image tags to text. This would kill two of my peeves with one stone:

[list]
[*]quoting pictures. I'm in a thread where someone quoted two medium sized picture only to post "hahahahahahah"
[*]quoting those innane Folding at Home "badges"
[/list]
Thanks for listening.

lol i dont get why people have to quote pics over and over again so like 1 full page is the same pic re-quoted.

It would be neat to see if it could be worked in if its not a hassle. I think there was talk about it before but im not sure

Every thread I see that in I comment it in my post just asking to delete the tags. Of course no one ever listens, and I am even often ridiculed for making such a rediculous request. I am often told that it doesn't affect loading times for pages and that it isn't that much of a hassle to scroll through all the pictures.

Thank you though, to those of you who agree with me.

I also agree that this should be automatic if at all possible. However, if it loads the [H] servers too much then I can deal with it. That or, you could hire a mod whose sole purpose in life is editing posts to remove the [IMG] tags. :p

P.S. If anyone quotes the above tag... I will castrate you. Thanks in advance. :D

For the "badges", I can't understand why people insert them--particularly if they don't want them to be quoted. If I really want to know your stats, I can go look them up.

I dont mind people quoting images, I really hate how its impossible to set the dimensions of the image. Not fun to have your position in the page jump around with each picture load. But then again no one would specify the size and doing so for them would be more trouble than its worth.

I guess its more about bragging rights. I'm not really sure why as most don't brag. Its probably one of those things where its like "Your balls are bigger and I know it...so I won't argue".

For me, its to show support for it. To show that I fold alot to help out. I do think that quoting them and reposting the tag in the same thread is a little over the top but showing support is not. Plus, they are limited in size and don't clutter the page like large pics do.

...if Kyle agrees.

(i downloaded the code and looked at it, and it's VERY easy, i cant post the code here as it is for vBulletin owners only, but can be downloaded in the above mentioned link.)

If I were to download and install that code, would it work or is that for the server... I didn't quite understand.

EDIT: Sorry about the double post.

No, it's just a small text file with a short piece of code that has to be inserted into an already existing vBulletin file on Kyle's server, a code modification.

So it's a server side mod, not something you can do to get rid of quoted images here.

Damn, well I hope he implements it. That would be awesome.

That or like I said, get another mod to do it. Eitherway is a simple fix and would save everyone the hassle.

No big deal if he decides not to do either. I'll just keep dealing with it like I've dealt since I've been here. :D

someone make a FF plugin that will only display the same image once per html page. ;)

Course, that only help's FF users.

Yeah, your forgetting Opera and IE and all the other browsers that people use. Even the little ones that aren't popular. One code will not fix them all unless implimented by the [H] server.

Good idea though.

yes this is a very good idea as i have a slow comp atm and going down the page actually lagggggs

removing img tags automatically would be great.

It's not just to show off stats. Those badges help recruit new members to the horde.

By obliging them to delete the tags every time they quote someone else's post? Why not just use a line in the sig? Isn't that what sigs are for?

Anyway, it seems we have concensus that this would be a welcome modification. How do we actually make it happen?

I use it in my sig, but they are a lot less noticable in sigs, and images/stats cannot be included in sigs. Some people join just for the stats.

and deleting the badges does not take much effort. Just drag the mouse over one line and press the delete key :)

... except that the badge takes more than one line, and the tags end up taking a careful selection to delete correctly.

I'd love to see statistics backing up your claim that it recruits more new members than something in the sig, by the way. I think you're just going on a hunch, and making work for everyone who responds to a badged note.

[H]orde Tested.
Kyle Approved (can find a few places where he said they are fine, and will not be changed)

Get back on topic, no need to do pointless flaming about this here.

I agree that it would be nice to break image tags when quoting.

(if you really think it takes *that* much extra effort to remove the tags, you seriously have issues)

mike, the fellow you are talking to there was recuited by seeing the badges, and asking what it was, as was I.

kstar [my shift key just died]; i agree with you, if you are too lazy to remove image tags, you are pathetic. at any rate, i like the idea of having vbull strip them for those who forget.

i must now go find a keyboard with a working shift key. damnit.

This is true :)

Before I started folding I would see stuff about it in some sigs, and once in awhile a few posts about folding. But I didn't pay much attention to them, didn't really know what it was or cared much about it. Saw a few badges and that got me interested.

I'm done with this thread, I don't want to repeat myself :)

Me, too. Computers are here to save me work and annoyance, not cause it. So how do we make progress to this end?

You make it happen by your suggestions. Forum changes are made by Kyle, not by the democratic process. The suggestion has been noted. :)
