Wait, you have to actually request removal of this kind of stuff before Twitter will consider taking it down? And then only if it isn't "newsworthy?"

In order to respect the wishes of loved ones, Twitter will remove imagery of deceased individuals in certain circumstances. Immediate family members and other authorized individuals may request the removal of images or video of deceased individuals, from when critical injury occurs to the moments before or after death, by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. When reviewing such media removal requests, Twitter considers public interest factors such as the newsworthiness of the content and may not be able to honor every request.

I dont think its Twitters job to scan every obituary in the world and cross reference the name with every member. A request system seems reasonable.

My brother is a Ferguson police officer and pictures of his child ended up on twitter when the riots started with threats being made. We contacted Twitter and they said the postings fit within their guidelines. If unauthorized pictures of a minor fit within their guidelines, who is actually going to believe they are going to remove your pictures as long as they get clicks for it.

Kid pics of a Ferguson police officer sounds newsworthy (if only to point out how messed up some people are), so Twitter reserves the right to keep them forever.
