Does anyone know how to get a x264 .mKv file to stream over tversity to a 360?

I want to watch HD movies and I just can't seem to get the 360 to play these files!

I don't really know where this question goes. Feel free to move it mods! ;)

Thanks!

Convert the mkv files to mp4 with 2 channel sound.

Doesn't tversity have an option to transcode files so you don't have to convert them?

I didn't spend much time with it, but I remember dinking around with it when I first got my PS3. I seem to recall that you could enable transcoding in one of the menus. Peek around and see if you can find it. If you enable it, and it's working properly, I believe it will solve your problem.

TVersity does have the ability to transcode. It does not, however, have the ability to transcode an MKV file. You will need to convert it.

Any good "free" programs?

I've looked around and most end up being trials. :(

Handbrake

Undisputedly the best free converting utility out there.

Will try, thanks.

*Edit*

I am encoding, but my quad is hitting over 80*C!

:(

Even not overclocked it ramps up quickly. I need better cooling than stock. :(

I can't believe nobody mentioned XenonMKV. It was made specifically for converting MKVs to MP4s that can be played on the Xbox 360 either through TVersity streaming or a USB hard drive. It's ridiculously easy to use and is almost an all-in-one package - you only have to download the NeroAACenc.exe file from Nero's website and stick it in the XenonMKV Tools directory.

It's basically a script that goes through the whole process of splitting the MKV files (if over the 4 GB limit of the Xbox 360) demuxing them into the audio and video streams, re-encoding the audio, and muxing the result into an MP4 file that the Xbox 360 can read. It'll even identify some problems with the MKV that might prevent the resulting MP4 from playing properly.

Will try good sir!

PossumK, you method works. While I do get some errors... it does work. They stream.

I can be content for now...., but is there anyway to fully convert 6+ GB and get it to play?

What errors are you getting? What are you trying to do with the 6+ GB? Keep it as one file?

I was surprised to do a search on the forums and this is the only thread that mentions XenonMKV. But thanks for mentioning it, seems to work for automatically remuxing mkv to mp4 while keeping audio/video synched. The bitch that follows (for WMP streamers) is getting the MP4 into the WMP library. Renaming to .avi seems to work. I hear Windows 7 won't have this problem. Maybe time to install the beta to my spare HDD.
