TV Wonder Pro

The other night I purchased a TV Wonder Pro from Best Buy so I could record TV shows. I've run into a couple of problems though and I'm contemplating returning it. I'm sure some of you have them and I'm wondering if it's just my setup or if it's a common problem. I purchased a cable splitter and two 3' push on coaxial cables so I could split the cable between my TV and computer. In doing so, the quality on both my TV and computer was reduced on a couple of channels, and I had to move the cable splitter around in order to get the picture to come in more clearly. I guess I'm wondering if there's a more effective way to do this, and if I get a traditional screw on cable it'll come in more clearly.

Also, the shows themselves take up a ton of space (far more than I expected ~ 1 GB for 12 mins). Is this normal or is there a better way to encode them?

Thanks in advance.
