Okay, I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I want to get a TV tuner to do a few things:

- Watch TV on my monitor.
- Record TV shows.

That is all I want to do, could you guys recommend a few TV tuners to suit these basic needs?

Edit : I have cable, with about 90 channels if that makes a difference? I'm not sure if you have to have digital or satelite for TV tuners, never really bothered to read about em :p.

That card uses the ancient 878 video decoder, don't get it. The 9 and 10 bit decoders offer much better video quality for the same price (at the cost of a little instability in drivers). I would go with this one or one of the newer asus models.

Newegg doesn't ship to Canada. This is what I should be looking for though? Something along those lines will be fine? Also what is the image quality like? What resolutions are the common for these things? If anyone out there regularly records TV could you give me some tips to make sure everything runs smoothly. :)
 
Do any of these tuners support HDTV? Are there any good tuners (internal or external) that do?
 
ATI HDTV Wonder. I am using the Leadtek WinTV2000 (not HD) which works fine for me and was $29 on sale.
 
I would go with the 150-MCE or 250-MCE since both have FM tuners as well. I have been happy with the quality of my 250MCE since day one. The ATI HDWonder is a great card, ONCE you get it setup. Don't bother if you don't have an ATI card as the setup drove me to replace my 6800NU with a X800Pro.
 
HDTV tuners are rare due to the freshness of technology. ATI's HDTV wonder has had some issues, but I don't know any of them first hand. I would suggest clicking over to the HTPC forum and do some reading over there. as for the original question, I prefer something with hardware encoding so that the cpu doesn't get pegged while recording. The Hauppauge PVR series is the most used and widely supported by software companies.
 
dvico fusion 3 is supposed to be the best HD TV tuner.

you can even download demos to see if you computer is fast enough to use it! and the quality is :drool:

Read this post, went to the local shop and take this card, works OK but I'm not happy with the resolution when I watch full screen TV on my 24" Samsung SyncMaster 243T. What is the max TV resolution of this card?
