Guys....

what do you think is the best TV Tuner card around? Keep in mind that I have a Vp171B which is HDTV 720p ready.

General consensus has it that the Leadtek cards win the sub $60 category and that the Hauppauge PVR 250/350 lead the mid range @ $120-$180

I also own both and am very satisfied with them. I've barely begun to use their features but they've been flawless in operation so far.

I would just get one of the Leadtek cards. The image quality will be fine and they are some of the best. You can get them pretty cheap off Newegg.
 
I'd have to say the pvr 250 over the leadtek deluxe...by a hair but def noticeable on my setups.

I've heard they're decent cards but you sure they use the 'exact chips' as the pvr250/350? The inital description lists a variety of peculiarities like 'theatre 200', plain ole 'connexant' and 'Phillips'. I was researching the Avermedias heavily before settling upon the PVR250. People didn't seem to favor them as much as the pvr 250/350 over at AVS forums. Their not quite as supported as the PVR yet either but the avermedia seems to have its strong points as well. High image quality, hardware encoding for the midrange models and growing support+compatibility.

Low end=Leadtek Winfast & maybe MSI TV-Anywhere
Mid-range= Avermedia M150
Mid/High end= Hauppauge PVR250/350 & maybe the Adaptech VideOh! external
High-end= not too sure but there are a few real nice ones.

It just boils down to what you want to spend i guess.

Many of the new MCE PCS that are coming out use a card from Hauppauge that has no name other then the code name "Rosyln" but is incorrectly called a "PVR250 MCE." The "Rosyln" cards use a new Conexant Blackbird design which is also what the ATI "E-Home Wonder" and AverMedia m150 use too. The "Theature 200" chip on the E-Home is the chip that ATI uses for video in/out and can be found on their All-in-Wonder cards. Two things you should read:

ATI eHome Wonder - This card is a brand new WinXP MCE hardware encoding card that uses a combination of the excellent ATI Rage Theater 200 found on AIW cards and the well known iVAC16 chip used on the PVR-250 and others. This is known to work just fine with GotTV and mostly work with SageTV 1.4 and should be fully compatible with Sage 2.0.

AverMedia m150 - inepxensive new WinXP MCE compliant MPEG2 encoding card using the same MPEG2 encoder as the Hauppuage PVR-250 paired with a CX32880 for the TV receiving chip. This is known as the "Blackbird" reference design.
Please note: this is a newer and much better card than the m179 which had many quality issues and is now being phased-out. This card is known to work with GotTV and will work with Sage 2.0 when it is released.
