TV Tuner cards

I have a couple questions about TV Tuner cards. I am in the market for one so I can use windows media center instead of my cable box. Is it possible to use Windows Media Center instead of a cable box? In the event that it does work like that. What is a good TV Tuner card to get? I want one that has a Windows Media remote, not one of those cheap crappy remotes. And last question, is it possible to use a windows media remote that comes with a tuner card on media center for my xbox360.


I apologize if this is in the wrong section, but it seemed most fitting.

Depends. If you have a plain cable box it should work. If your box uses a cable card, then you will need to get a tuner card that has support for it (and hope that your cable company will work with you).

Its not as simple as that. WAY too little information. HD? Dual Tuner? Want over the air signal also? Interface? What OS do you run? How much are you willing to spend?

Doesn't matter. You are going to get a "crappy remote" whether you like it or not. It doesn't matter though because the remote just sends keystrokes. You can get any windows remote and it will work fine.

And last question, is it possible to use a windows media remote that comes with a tuner card on media center for my xbox360.

I haven't seen one that can do this. Again, this would be a better question for the folks in the htpc forum.

My experience with one is I got an ATI hd650. They stopped making drivers for it after vista (and even they they were spotty at best) so I had to find an old XP driver and be careful to install it AFTER I install my video card drivers. If I don't my new ati drivers for my 3d card will overwrite them and I get a blank screen. Getting it to run in media center is easy. Just open it up and "set up tv". It will find your hardware, ask you which provider you use, download the tv schedules for your guide, and scan for channels automatically. Once its finished, a quick reset of your pc will have you watching your stations on your computer.
