I dont know if this is the wrong forum but hey. How many of you guys watch tv on ya pc monitor. I was thinking about doing this but i need to know which hardware i need.
Can anyone give me any links? Any help is appreciated :)
 
You need a TV tuner card or a video card that has a cable input on it. If you are upgrading your video card I personally reccomend one of ATI's All in Wonder cards. Otherwise just go to newegg.com or some other respected hardware site and search for TV tuner cards. I'm sure someone else will post a more detailed explination and if not, I will do so when I wake up tomorrow.
 
I watch tv sometimes with my Asus Tuner/FM card on a Dell E193FP 19" lcd...

Pretty simple install, plug it in the pci slot and connect the audio out to your audigy or whatever you have and you're ready to rock.

Picture quality is a bit worse than normal tv in my opinion, just due to the nature of the signal and maybe the crappy de-interlacing... Still it's really handy to watch tv and surf at the same time without turning ur head around all the time.

As for the software, it will most likely come with the hardware. I'm using Cyberlink's PowerVCR (i think it's called this). I tend to use its recording functions more than my vcr... more handy to program perhaps, and it can record it in mpeg2, though don't expect it look like a dvd after... remember its the source signal that matters. It can also timeshift... so u can pause and rewind the show ur watching as its being shown live on tv...

anyways, its a good purchase, even better when ATI decides to release a HD-Tuner version of a tv tuner card... that's when all these guys with their Dell super widescreen mons will shit their pants.
 
I got an ati all in wonder. Works great. It's cool when I'm playing poker to have a tv window open next to my game.
 
I got a vivo card (sig), and I have a cable that goes through my VCR and outputs in composite connectors, sound and video, for my input audigy x-gamer and input of my radeon. Then I open any program that reads videos and I change channels with my vcr remote. Excellent for VHS ripping! lol.
 
I use an Avermedia TV/Capture card.... Watvh TV every day on it while also surfing the net.
 
I was wondering about this too, couldn't you be able to connect a DVI cable to an HD DVR receiver, and then attach a DVI cable going out to an LCD, and then be able to both use your computer normally, and watch HDTV, or would there be problems since the monitor is not directly connected to the vid card?
