TV Mount Help

I purchased this mount for my TV for my new apartment to use above the fireplace. When I purchased it, it didn't occur to me that the studs in the wall would be abnormally spaced due to the fireplace. There are two, one on each side of the fireplace, but they are too far apart to use the mount.

Are there any tricks I could use to get it to work? Someone suggested mounting two 2x4's to the studs, then mounting the mount to the 2x4's, which I could certainly do, but I don't know if it would support the TV. The TV is 100lbs and measures 63" x 39".

Bump. I'd appreciate some tips from people that have had to do some ghetto rigging to get their TVs mounted.
