TV interface and computer on two different monitors

I looked around briefly but could not find this information. It should probably be in the FAQ somewhere if there is a solution to my problem.

I have a TV and a computer monitor. I'm still in college and well i want my htpc to function as my computer and TV simultaneously. As in i want to get a remote so that someone can access a MCE type interface on the TV screen while I type away at my desk while using my computer monitor as my interface. Are there any software packages that do this or is it not yet possible?

No real interaction would be needed between the two its just that the tuner on my sharp 32" lcd is real slow changing channels so I want to find a way to bypass it. I already have a computer in HTPC form, just lacking a tuner. I want to add a tuner and get the right software that would allow me to do this.

The other alternative is if I got another computer, what would be the best way to network them together so the libraries of music and videos on the htpc can be accessed by another computer simultaneously.

If you've got an extra ethernet port you could network them using a cross over cable. I've got a Tablet PC and a desktop that I network using this way and it's been great. Very quick transfer speeds and not much managing to do. I'd recommend setting up static IPs for each machine, for me it just seems to work better.
