Looking for a replacement TV for the bedroom under $1000. The cheaper the better. 40-55" 1080p or 4k.

The wife LIKES the 120hz "Motion Smoothing" or "Soap Opera Effect"

Prefer local dimming.


It's only going to be used for Netflix >Amazon > Blu Rays/dvd's.

Appreciate any suggestions. So far eyeing:

TCL 55P607 for $650
Samsung UN49MU8000 for $800
TCL 55S405 for $400

I bought a Vizio 49" 4K this time last year, I can't really say that I would recommend it, it has terrible blacks, and the colors are pretty pitiful. Also don't care much for using the Casting to use apps, I end up using my Shield TV instead. I really like the TCL that has the ROKU built in, or Sony with the android TV built in.
 
I was just looking at the TCL 55P too - it's gotten really great reviews. I really wanted to get a 65 (since my current TV is a 55) but it looks like TCL is not going any bigger on that model.

I think even Best Buy carries it in some stores. FYI: The only difference between the BB version and the Amazon version (which I was also looking at) seems to be that the Amazon version - which costs a little bit more - also comes with a better remote. The actual TV is the same.

I'm waiting for the XBox One X to come out (have it on pre-order) before making the jump to a 4K TV just in case something better comes along. Although if it comes on sale before then, I might pull the trigger.
