Can someone explain to me how they work?

I can understand plugging in a coaxial cable into the tv card but how does that end up on your monitor? what about refresh rates etc?

Does it just go though the comp?
 
did u even read his post? im also curious as to how it works. how do u watch tv? do u have to plug in somethin to get tv feed or just using that card gets u tv?

Well, it is quite simple, really.

A tuner card plugs into any free PCI slot. On the back, it has a couple of connectors (this varies by card sometimes):

1) COAX for cable TV
2) Composite In (for connecting a VCR/DVD player, etc)
3) SVHS In (the round better quality video signal than the one above)
4) and a Line out (for TV sound to be connected to the line-in on your sound card)

Mine also came with an infra-red remote control and sensor that plugs into the USB (for changing channels from accross the room, like we are all used to).

It installs with drivers, just as any other computer hardware. Then, all you have to do is load up the application (some sort of TV program or Digital VCR) and watch TV like you usually do.

Depending on the capabilities of the software that you are using (there are many out there, I just used the one that came with my TV card) you can

1) Record shows to your HDD
2) Watch TV in a window or fullscreen
3) Have TV as your desktop (windows wallpaper)
4) Do timed recording
...etc, etc.

It is really cool, and all happens on your monitor, just like watching a vid clip from the internet.
