I recently bought a nice cheap pair of altec Lansing speakers but there is no knob for sub control. At night i would love to turn it down but i cant seem to find an option in windows either. Can anyone help me out?
 
I should mention I have the VS2621 model. Just my games are too loud bass wise for the apartment.

Common problem with cheaper speakers, unfortunately. Unless your soundcard has an EQ in it, and not all do, there isn't a simple way to turn it down. So first thing is just look in your sound card controls, see if you have an EQ. If so, play with that. You are mostly concerned with 125Hz and below.

If not, you can try modifying the response of the sub a bit by sealing it. What you do is block the port on the sub. The best thing to use would be a foam plug, however an old t-shirt or the like can work too. You don't want to seal it air tight, just block the port. That will cause the sub to be less efficient, and thus less loud, as well as start to roll off at a higher frequency, resulting in less low bass.
 
Thank you for that it has helped. I just find it lame that nothing has been made for this. Seems like a basic thing.
 
Well good speakers have controls for it. Cheap ones just don't because it saves money. Plus most people like too much bass, so cheap speakers are often too much. You may want to look in to better speakers, when cash allows. One option if you aren't big on bass is 2.0 powered monitors. Having no sub they have less bass, and also tend to be higher quality.
