I had been a loyal follower of Nvidia for a few years now, in recent years owner of a 6-series and SLi 8800GTXs. Sadly, I had run into series issues with nvlddmkm.sys crapping out on me, random crashes, it was time to move on and upgrade. This time, however, the new 4870s seemed too hard to pass up.

Here I sit, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the FedEx man to deliver my new P5Q-E and the dual 4870s. Can't wait to put the babies to the test.

Good choice but with the 4870x2 right around the corners man...this sounds like an impulse buy. I did the same thing by ordering a gtx280, luckily I can still correct it.
 
True but the 4870x2 is going to be $499...about the same cost of two 4870s. Benchmarks do show 4870CF pulling ahead any way, so you might actually get better performance with dual 4870s, especially since they should be able to OC better than a 4870x2.
 
thats why i went with the 4870 crossfire

i can run both @ 840 core, 1100 memory, id hate to see the heat output on the 4870x2 with those clocks
