Does anyone ever actually deactivate their tri-fire or even dual x fire in some games to conserve power and generate less nuclear amounts of heat? Some games just DO NOT need that much engine behind them. WOW for instance. DX11 uses all 3 cards and I get max of 130fps. If I go DX11 one card I get max of 98 fps. If I go dx9 with one card I get 130 fps. Just overkill for some games.

I do and was just wondering if i'm going a little too far.
 
I don't have multiple cards, but if I did and was playing a game that a single card could easily max out I certainly would. I don't see the need to have another card(s) running putting out additional heat and using additional power if there's no advantage.
 
turn on vsync when you can and gpu's will throttle down and use less power and put out less heat
 
For most games, yes. It'll lock the framerate to 60(or whatever your monitor refresh rate is) so each GPU will be doing less work. The downside is that V-Sync on it's own will increase input lag. To get around that, you need a third party tool like D3DOverrider or RadeonPro to force Triple Buffering. The option in CCC only works for OpenGL games, and those are few and far between.

You mentioned WoW, but what situation where you in when you were getting those FPS numbers? There is going to be a big difference between standing in some random area and being in a full raid group when the shit is hitting the fan. Even just flying high over terrain with max view distance can generate some impressive GPU utilization. There are definitely times when I see all four of my GPUs at 100% utilization.

And this I did not know as well. Well I knoew about Radeon Pro however I didnt know that Trip Buff makes that much of a difference. I will try it later.
