Few questions.

1. Is it possible to turn off a core on a dual core processor?

2. Would turning off a core create less heat?

3. Would the Performance page in Task Manager look the same with a dual core versus hyperthreading?

Thanks.

If you don't want dual cores, don't buy a dual core processor.

You can set affinity to one processor core if you only want it to use one and not the other. (overall as a whole, not a noticable difference in heat. One core will be 'cooler' that is "turned off", but the other will be hotter than if both of them were working on the same task at once.)

With dual cores, it gives you 2 cpu usage graphs.
