i currently have 2 hard drives connect to my computer, 1 is a 200gb sata hdd and the other is a 40gb ide hdd. Now the 40gb hdd is quite old and is a little lound when its on, and i just use it to store some files that i might use later instead of my 200gb hard drive. I was wondering is there any way i can make the 40gb hdd go to sleep after lets say 5min of inactivity while my 200gb one is still running. Is this possible to do?

Depends on your operating system but XP should have a setting for that in power options in the control panel or you can also get to it from the power link on the screensaver menu.

i can see it says turn of harddisks but i really want it so it just turns of one of them not both of them, and if it does help, im using windows xp professional.

From what I've seen with my system, each hard drive will be turned off based on it's individual idle time.

For example, I have 6 hard drives and each will turn off independently, except my OS drive that is always on.
