my psu went out the other day it was running fine then i heard a pop form inside my pc and smelt like some thing burnt up and i said o shit tested the psu and it was dead:(
any way what would be a good one to replace it whit?

amd x2 4800 at 2.75
2 hhd
ati 4870
few 80 mm fans and 1 120mm fan
 
How old was it? It may still be under warranty with PC P&C. If so then you should RMA it. They don't make it anymore, but maybe they would send you a Silencer 610 as replacement.
 
You could run that system off a good 350-400W PSU, but I recommend you look into RMAing that PSU like HOOfan suggested. No sense buying a new PSU if you can get it replaced for free.
 
its about 4 years old and i just loocked and it says it has a 7 year warranty on it. but i took teh cover off of it after it died just to see what burnt on it and when i went to put it back togther i lost two of the litle black case screws on it (dam thigns are realy tiny) still think i can RMA?

and on a nother note when it died my ups went to full load for like 10 secs after my psu made a pop sound and now i think my ups is fucked becues it only puts out 87v could the psu have casued the ups to get messed up? and waht do you think coudl be worng whti the ups could a bat have went bad?

The fact that you opened up your PSU probably means that your warranty is now void. NEVER DO THIS.

Check the PSU to see if there's a warranty void sticker that you removed or broke when you opened up the PSU. If there is no sticker, find those damn screws and put them back in. You should be good to RMA it. If there is a sticker and you broke or removed it, then you're SOL and you have to buy a new PSU.

A PSU failing could have caused the electronics in the UPS to fail. I doubt anything happened to the battery, but the circuitry could be damaged. Remember to have your UPS connected to a ground when you test it, otherwise you might not get accurate readings.
 
back when pc power and cooling was under origional owner i would say they would most likely send him another unit however since ocz bought pc power and cooling out.......up in the air what ocz is gonna do.

1) PCP&C still operates pretty independently, so I doubt they'd give him a problem.

2) The PSU is still within the warranty period, so unless he did in fact void it, they have to replace it no matter what. And if he did void the warranty, neither the PCP&C of today nor the PCP&C of before the OCZ buyout would provide a replacement.

My point being don't expect any the Corsair to be any better than the PCP&C. They all fail eventually has nothing to do with luck.
 
both corsair and pcp&c are good psu companies. knothead was just recommending corsair as a replacement, unless OP rmas, unless warranty is void. /thread

Still don't see the logic. You're giving the impression these brands should be avoided, because they'll eventually fail, giving no good reason why you would say it. Yes, your TX750 failed within less than one year, but as you're probably perfectly aware of, absolutely no company has a 0% failure rate on their products. So someone is bound to get the odd dud unit, and as the unlucky buyer, you did.
