Turbo switch

I got a bunch of those "turbo" switches and displays from old AT cases and was wondering if any one has a diagram or schematic on how they work, i saw onetime where some one had changed it to say HI and LO.
 
If ya look on the back of the switches you might find a bunch of jumpers that let you change the display settings. There is no standard per say, but if you experiment with the jumpers you should be able to map out the changes you want to make.

Basically the jumpers control which bars light up depending on the state of the switch.

i can make them say one thing but not two things like HI and LO

Step one dude... Keep messing around, eventually you'll find combonations that turn on/off or off/on with the switch state. After that you just have to put them together in the right order.
 
they have thses switches on the pcs at school, what exactly do thaey do cause i dont see any diffrence

Back in the day, they just increased the clock speed of the computer. Instead of running 4.77 Mhz, you could hit the switch to make it run at 6 Mhz. Later computer models would allow you to to jump from 10 to 12 or something similar. If you see a Turbo button on a computer today it either isn't hooked up or you wouldn't see a difference because the speed increment is so small. It's not like you're overclocking a processor by 500 Mhz. We're talking single digits or 20 cycles tops.

The main reason you had these buttons in the first place was indeed to slow your computer down to run applications or games that ran too fast because they used the internal cycle count as their timer. But you'd run into a person of the slower mental persuasion that kept it turned off lest they burn out their computer faster. Ah, those where kinder, gentler times.

i think I want to wire one up to my jumpers so I can pop up the FSB on a press
 
HAHA, i haven't seen those things in quite a while. Good luck with getting them wired..;)
 
in HS i messed around with a 486 and put a switch on the front that changed the frequency from 25mhz to 40mhz. all it did was jump differnet pins on the multiplier. no heatsink on the cpu :D
