Tubing size

Does it really matter? I didn't know the barbs on the D5 pump were 1/2 went I built my loop. The pump came with reducers from 1/2 to 3/8 but it looks like azz. So I ordered new fittings and 1/2 tubing. Not sure if its going to make a difference in temps but it will look a whole lot better.

No real difference. There's less restriction, so your flow will be higher. Will you see better temps? Probably not.

I am pretty sure, once you are at or over 10mm (3/8) ID you won't see any real change, so it's primarily for looks.

Thanks y'all. I didn't think it would make a difference but having all the same tube size will make it look far better than what it does right now.

Once you're over 3/8th, the difference is minimal between 3/8 and 1/2 ID in terms of temps

Others may go 3/8 ID but 5/8 OD for thicker wall to resist kinking

Like everyone else has said, tubing size has minimal effects on temps.

Heres a good read:

The main takeaway:

9.6mm barbed = 5.7LPM, 0.0768 block c/w, 0.0369 rad c/w
9.6mm quick fit = 6.2LPM, 0.0762 block c/w, 0.0367 rad c/w
11.1mm barbed = 6.3LPM, 0.0761 block c/w, 0.0367 rad c/w
12.7mm barbed = 6.35LPM, 0.0760 block c/w, 0.0366 rad c/w

9.6mm barbed = 33.89C
9.6mm quick fit = 33.80C
11.1mm barbed = 33.79C
12.7mm barbed = 33.77C

You can see what that extra liter per minute nets you in temps, absolutely nothing.

Nice, thanks for the link. Indeed it is a good read. I wanted to change just so that everything was one size. If I get a little better cooling, cool. If not, no biggie.

Looks like I can drop .1 degrees C, Woohoo, lol.

Thanks again.

For future reference you could have added a pump top to it which would have allowed u to use whatever fitting you wanted on the pump. Might have been cheaper.
