TT Symphony mini, any thoughts?

Any opinions/experience with this? Looks like a nasty entry-level unit with legs to grow on.

"nasty" is the word for ANY Thermaltake watercooling product [insert barfing smiley here]

Well, I suppose you could add a GPU now that I think about it, but that's the thing. For that kind of money, the GPU block should be included in the price.

I wouldn't bother with the TT kit... High end air cooling would most likely yield similar results. The Exos2 would be much better in comparison but they are a bit overprice IMO. For around the same price or maybe even less depending on your needs you can grab one of petras or a swiftech kit that would do a better job.

Just get high-end air cooling. Siimilar temps and much less hassle.

I water-cooled for about three years, and then finally went to a Zalman 9700 for my Core 2. It's actually a few degress cooler, just as quite. No water hassle.

I have a Thermalright SI 128....idling at 50c now (476 fsb on an e6300)...24c ambient and around 64c on orthos :(

That is pretty decent.

Believe me, I used to be all about water-cooling, but bought the 9700 on a lark just to change things around.

Water-cooling has its advantages, but high-end air-cooling is damn close, and less expensive and much less of a hassle.

For reference, my system in sig runs at about 58c on water in a 24c room...

Worth it for 6 degrees? hell no!

Water's really only good if you're cooling EVERYTHING these days...

Hm....water cooling lowered my load temp by 14 degrees over a zalman 9500. I really enjoy tinkering. So I like the water setup.

Just picked up a 9700 at the Plano Fry's for $70...they don't give em away huh? My buddy with a C2D switched from water to a Zalman 9500 and said it was only like 3c dif too, and definitely better than what I'm getting with the SI 128. I'm anxious to see what real difference there is between these 2 coolers...hopefully, I won't have to abuse the Fry's return policy because of lacking improvement ;)

I'll report back in the next couple days...

Well, the 9700 allows me to do Orthos small ffts 6 hours (at least) without error, allowed me to increase the voltage to my cpu to do it, and the temps average about 65C under that load (24c amb). Before orthos would error out after an hour or so at 65c, and I had my temps brushing 72C on occasion with the voltage I'm on now (1.375).

Bottom line yes the Zalman cooler performs better for me than the Thermalright SI 128, allowing me to run 5c cooler at higher voltages...maybe the all-copper vs. copper base aluminum fins is the difference, I dunno. I always have had great success with Thermalright in the past, but the 9700 monster beat TR this build.

I have no problems with ThermalTake's air cooling products... (big fan of the Big Typhoon), but their watercooling kits make me cringe. For what they charge, you can "customize" your own system from parts. Plus I really loathe the "quick connect" fittings.

I went from a Zalman 9500 to the WC setup I currently have. CPU temps only dropped a little (about 5-6c), but the noise level is much much lower. I also had a Zalman VF-900 on the X800GTO videocard, but now use a MCW60 GPU block and those temps dropped by a BIG margin.... it allowed me to OC the videocard to higher speeds.

I'd rather drain my WC loop once a year to clean it out than have to clean the fins of the 9500 on a monthly basis (what a pain that was!) And my system no longer sounds like a LearJet spooling up for takeoff.

Ya the water is quiet...I have 5x 80mm plus a slot fan below vidcard...gets noisey but all the fans including the Zalman are on a 6 channel bay controller that really quiets things down (I just crank them up for games).
