If anyone has any experience with either of these cooler please chime in. The fan on my abit silero OTES ti-4200 died and I need to replace the entire OTES system with something that can keep the card running (it comes overclocked) I was looking at either the Thermaltake G4-VGA CoolMOD or the vantec iceberg 4 PRO cooler. Ive read review of both but they didnt do anything comparative so Im at a loss as to which is better. Thanks for the help, product links below.

the iceberq4 did jackshit when i tried it. I returned it the next day and ordered my VGA silencer.

Bump
Edit: Those silencers are definately cool but they dont fit geforce 4's.

One what card and in comparison to what other cooler? When I pooped the Iceberq4 onto my 9800Pro awhile back it got me about 10 more MHz or so out of the core compared to the stock cooler (from 405 to closer to 415). Granted the stock cooler on the 9800Pro isn't the best, but I'd never say that the Iceberq was useless.

when an iceberq costs 15 bucks and a VGA silencer cost 20 bucks. I say the iceberq4 is useless.

I admit that the Silencer is FAR better and very nicely priced but that doesn't make the Iceberq complete crap. I admit that If I had the choice I'd probly get the Silencer but still, the iceberq is still nice in it's own right.

someone with a shuttle case sure as hell isn't going to try and fit that dual slot cooler into their box and personally, I think it looks kinda ugly.

My point stands, the silencer is nice, but i still like the Iceberq and it's more applicable for some people.

So does anyone have an opinion or experience between the TT cooler I linked to and the Iceberg? My main concern is the case i am using has really bad cooling (60mm in, 60 mm out, ghetto PSU) and I dont want the cooler to get overwhelmed by this card which runs at 275 core (vs 250 stock). I could replace the cards OTES fan but its so godamn loud that id like to avoid it.

I don't have any direct experience with the Tt cooler linked to above but I can tell you that my MSI Ti4200's cooler was almost identical in dimensions and construction and it was fairly decent. Considering that cooler took my Ti4200 up to 315/600 in a fairly warm case I'd say you'd probly be alright with the Tt if that's the way you decide to go.

I used to have the TT one on my TI4200. I also have the Vantec on a 9800pro. The TT one is much better, as the base is much larger and thicker. I say go with the TT.

I dont know if the iceberg is good or not but I did order one today so I hope its better then what Im reading. The silencer dosent leave much room for ram sinks does it?It dont look like it if it does and they cant get much air on them to keep them cool being under that hugh gpu sink,Or can it?
Anyways a 10Mhz incease from a stock cooler isnt very good if you ask me,you should be able to just put some AS5 on there and get the same incease.I ordered some flower copper sinks for my memory and a iceberg for the gpu and I hope I get better results.

the silencer only leaves room for ramsinks on the bottom of the card. And i think you can get one piece of ram "sinked" on the top of the card.

sounds like a draw-back to me...

I don't have the 9800Pro right now, I'm currently running my modded 9800XT. And yes, she's got Arctic Silver on all the ram AND the core.....doing anything else would be just crazy. :D

Hopefully my iceberq 4 will be in tomorrow, I can let you know what I think of it then, has to be better than this stock sapphire piece of crap.

I agree with that 100%....Its to thin and flimsy and dont have good contact on the memory chips and prob. not good contact on the gpu too but I cant see in there.

Thanks for all the great responses. I think im going to get the TT cooler but I have to wait till i get some money. That should hold me over till the next generation of cards comes out.

Heh, and then we'll have to have this whole discussion over again about the news cards.....sheesh.

I can hardly wait to see what kind of creative cooling solutions Nvidia and ATI come up with for the nv40 and r420 later this year.....should be interesting to say the least.

Had that particular tt on my old GF4 and it worked great (and that was even in a cramped little Shuttle box too  ). Fry's sells them for $4.00 less than newegg when you take into account shipping.
