Noobie ?

What does the yellow 3 pin plug supposed to be connected to? I have the 4 pin connected to the PSU can I connect the yellow 3 pin plug at the same time?

That should be the tachometer signal to feed into the motherboard BIOS for RPM monitoring.

It goes on one of the three prong fan headers on your motherboard. If you don't care about monitoring the fans RPMs than I wouldn't even bother with it.

if you check the manual for your motherboard found HERE you'll see on page four of the pdf file the location of four fan headers (jcfan1, jnfan1, etc...).

Another dumb question. Does the fans run slower off the motherboard? I usually connect them to the PSU because I'm afraid that the fans will eventually burn out the mb or make the MB run hotter. Should I even worry about that?

I dont think running a fan from the Mobo connector will make it run faster... I mean, I don't do it to minimize wires in plain view of my window... but I know almost everyone else in the world does without any problems. Like, if the Mobo was meant to supply and control a fan it wouldn't just stop working... That'd be like your processor just spontaneously burning out the mobo... Kinda ruins the point of the mobo lol.

It doesnt make it run faster, but it does allow for software/BIOS to control the fan speed. If its a single-wire-three-pin connector, its just a speed sensor and will get no current from the mobo.
