I found an interesting tidbit of information of at Fudzilla about TSMC finanlly having their yields fixed.

Why I'm posting this in the Video Card section is the connection to Nvidia. With the GF100 finally in production, the time couldn't be better. With this, we might actually see some good availability from the green team, hopefully some more competitive pricing across the board.

Ideas?

The time could not have been better for Nvidia. With realization that their single GPU will NOT beat the 5970 and that the huge die size will mean 280W use not to mention huge cost. Yield rates of before would have killed it on arrival. Now it seems yield rates are atleast 80 percent For standard GPUs meaning about 60-75 percent for those huge dies. Expensive but atleast possible now.

Since we don't have solid numbers we have no idea how the 5970 will compare to the GF100. But it its 80% of the performance for 80% of the cost in a single GPU card, nVidia will not have a looser on its hands unless power and heat are that bad.
