trying to upgrade need help please

i have gotten a computer for my wife and it has a 1.7 celeron (socket 478) 400mhz and i'm wanting to know that if i get an Intel Pentium 4 2.53GHz Socket 478, Northwood, 33Mhz FBS, and 512KB L2 Cache would it work


if i got this, i'm assuming it will only run a mobo speed of 400mhz but WOULD it work at all??

Giving this a BUMP since it's my P4 that the OP is interested in.

He basically wants to know if a 533Mhz FSB P4 will run in a 400Mhz FSB Mobo. I wasn't sure if it would down clock or just not boot.

in short, yeah, but at lower speeds.

Just get her a cheapo P4 motherboard with agp or pcie and some new ddr400 memory.

Does your wife's current mobo have DDR or RDRAM (some older P4s did). I aks this because I am also selling my P4 mobo that I used with this processor, but it takes RDRAM not DDR.
