Hi guys! I'm a all new member of this forum, but I have been reading here for while (I do fold 24x7 on my i7-980X@4200 + 3xGTX580 = +120K PPD)...
I just ordered 4x 6282SE EngineeringSamples, for my new 4p build, but I'm not sure about what RAM to order:
http://www.alternate.de/html/product/G.Skill/DIMM_8_GB_DDR3-1333_Kit/671932/?
or
http://www.alternate.de/html/product/Crucial/DIMM_16_GB_DDR3-1600_Quad-Kit/1043896/?
To me it seems that 1.35V RAM will only RUN 1333MHz (based on the SM Manual, Page 2-6)...
And will a Noctua NH-U9DO-A3 Cooler be enough to cool the CPU's @+3.5GHz or should I go "Water"? I'll build a Custom Case (150mm tall) with 3x 140mm fans to suck cold air into the case (http://www.alternate.de/html/product/Nanoxia/FX_EVO_140_mm_IFC_-_1500_U-min/1040407/?)
Any input welcome - Only CPU's & Case have been ordered...
Why not stick with 1.5V? Is there a specific reason you're browsing low voltage memory?I just ordered 4x 6282SE EngineeringSamples, for my new 4p build, but I'm not sure about what RAM to order:
90mm Noctuas will not work for your target speeds. 120mm + fan upgrade (no less thanAnd will a Noctua NH-U9DO-A3 Cooler be enough to cool the CPU's @+3.5GHz
402blownstroker : I can run this setup at 3.6ghz 1.24V vcore untill it dies. It is my fault not to secure the 80mm black fan on the right good enough and cause the disaster the other day.
Tear: I have gskill 1600 ram 1.35V and found that I can change to command rate 1 and reduce cas a little at 1.5V on other PC. Is there a way to flash the ram on the 4P using different setting such as voltage annd command rate
Command rate should be 1 for unbuffered DIMMs. What command rate is TPC reporting?
Re tuning, if you have XMP DIMMs then general mod is this: http://www.amdzone.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=521&t=138490&p=218810#p218810
Start with basic XMP->JEDEC mod (per amdzone).
Once you exercise that, we can go about forcing 1.5V (if *really* needed).

Hi.
It seems that you use a Lian-Li case .
Can you give me the reference of it , please ?
I used d3sak basic with aggressive setting already. Here is the output of tpc

Really!!! Would time frame drops if I use half of the ram meaning 8 sticks of ram instead .. Or do you mean only using half the capacity in each of the 16 sticks ram. I looking to speed up frame time.EDIT: heh, on second thought, we could modify the SPD and disable one rank. Downside -- you'd end up with half of memory (which should still be enough for FAH).
We wouldn't need a BIOS mod though.
It is LIAN LI PC-A70F got it on sale for $120.. I have to mod quite a bit to get it to work such as removing top hardrive case and the supporting bracket. Install top rear fan, extending the back board top to support the huge motherboard .. It is very hot if you have internal heatsink so I use external rad to cool the cpus. The internal 4 case fans are only enough to handle the heat from motherboard.
Thanks a lot for your detailled response .
And i wish to all members of hardforum a happy new year .
