Trying to play CS:Source--DirectX Hardare problem?

I have DirectX Software 9.0c. When I try running CS:S I get an error message saying, "This game has a minimum requirement of DirectX 7.0 compataible hardware."

I don't know where to download a DirectX for hardware...I do have the latest drivers for my videocard.

Windows XP Professional (service pack 2)
GeForce fx 5900 ultra

I have reformatted twice...perhaps I should try again and download DirectX 8.1 instead of going to 9.0...though I would rather avoid that.
