Soooo.... is it worth it to spend extra money on something higher than an 8800GT for PhysX?

I've done a ton of searches and cannot find any "reviews" that show the different performance when using different GPUs as a dedicated PhysX card.

Right now.. I am most likely looking at getting a 9800GTX+ or a GTX260 for PhysX if it is worth getting something higher than an 8800GT.

Anybody actually tested different cards as dedicated PhysX cards?
 
Wow... no replies at all.

And for such a touted "capability" you would think that there would be some reviews out there that pit the different Nvidia cards against each other when used as a dedicated PhysX card.
 
Well... guess I am going to be using a BFG 8800GTS 512MB (G92 core - 128 "processor cores") as my PhysX card as I just picked one up on Ebay for $70 shipped.

What is it with sellers on Ebay these days???? Auction was listed as free shipping and then after I won, they tried to tell me free shipping was only if I used the "buy it now" option... which would have been $120.... yeah right. Tried to get me to pay an extra $10 for shipping.

Time to start looking again I guess.

Yay! Just picked up an ASUS GTS250 NIB on Ebay for 78.80 shipped....

55nm, one 6-pin, and non-reference cooler FTW.

Should be here in a few days :)
 
My new rig is going to have a GTS250 in it as a placeholder for the G300. Once that's out, I plan on using the GTS250 for PhysX.
Just curious - how much heat/noice does a video card being used for a PhysX processor create?

Not sure.... can't hear it over the noise of my other fans though so it must not be too loud.

I would recommend getting one with a non-reference cooler on it though as the reference coolers tend to be louder than the non-reference coolers. And the card will run cooler as well.
 
On a related note, do you still have to run the two power cables to the card being used for PhysX? I'll have some spares, but the fewer I have to use the better. I'm assuming this is a no brainer "yes" ... but I guess it can't hurt to ask.
