trying to change resolution...

Take a look at the sucky video card that I have...

I can change the resolution on the desktop just fine to 1600X1200.

When I try to change it in games, I don't see a difference from 1280x(whatever it is) from 640x480. Is it just my video card not changing anything because it is not capable of those res? (I have a new moniter, so I know it isn't that)
