My last mobo and cpu were the a7n8x and an xp1700 ( had both revisions, the 1.4 died and they replaced it with a 2.0) I decided to try intel again.

Im running a p4c800e and a 2.6c at 3.25/ 250 fsb 1:1 ratio on the ram. I ran short on cash and the cpu was an oem so I had to settle for a thermaltake volcanoe 7.

The cpu is currently at 27c idle and ive seen it as high as 32 under load.

My questions are .

Why can I run my memory only on auto? It wont boot at any other setting.

Do ya think my temps are okay?

How high can I bump my voltage with this cpu?

Dop ya think I could get a better overclock with a better hsf? (Im thinkin of the swiftech, I ran a mc 462a for the last few years and loved it)

your temps are incredibly good. you should be very happy with those

Most people say that you should stay below 1.65 if using air cooling

a new HSF wouldnt help you out because you have such nice temps already

i believe that asus boards read temps lower than they really are, so heat may be a small problem. it can't hurt to go to a new cooler, though. you may as well if you have the money; it might end up helping.

as for voltage, i believe that 1.65-1.7 is about the max you'll want to push to that chip.

if you use manual settings with asus P4x800x series make sure to put memory timing on standard and not turbo. turn spread spectrum off.

it should work better then tha "AI" settings

what memory are you using? it may explain why only the auto timings work.

bh-5 loves voltage. pump it some nice volts and it should work a lot better.
